The dating game tales from the trenches dating holidays family
Later I asked Rachel what she thought of the Perv, and the first thing she tells me was, “he was alright, except he totally stared at my boobs THE WHOLE TIME.” NEXT!So I told myself I wasn’t going to put the guys’ real names on here, just in case, but I have to put this guy’s name because it doesn’t do my story justice.Between four people working on this game and who knows how many other volunteer playtesters like myself, nobody had managed to pick up that you can buy said potion that essentially lets you date rape female characters in the game, and you can use it even if they don’t like you. After arguing about the ethics of the potion for half the weekend with the developers, I washed by hands of the situation. He then asks me if I had been at the last couple speed dating events. I tell him, “no,” and, Stanford tells me that he loves speed dating because there is a process to it and a predictable routine. Somehow, I don’t know how, but we got through the night. He then tells me that he met his last two girlfriends at speed dating events, and that he is fairly certain that this will be the way he meets his future wife. The event ended, and as soon as it’s over, Rachel and I leave before we can be cornered by any of them. So the take home message from my first speed dating event, if you’re feeling so brave: Have fun and enjoy it for what it is… Who knows, maybe you’ll have better luck and meet someone who’ll catch your attention within those five minutes.Among my circle of friends, I’m known for openly enjoying Japanese visual novels and dating sims.I largely keep it on the DL, but from time to time it comes up.
The women are arranged around the stations, and for some reason, the whole experience brings me back to learning how to square dance in the sixth grade.
At this point I should mention that the stated goal of the project was “to create a dating sim/RPG that brings Western sensibilities to a Japanese genre”.
All the girls in the game were 18 , there was no “harem ending,” and tentacle monsters were strictly forbidden. The game had an interesting mechanic where the player’s relationship with the various female characters were measured on two axes: How much they liked you and how much they were attracted to you.
To get an ending with any single girl you had to have a high score in both these categories, but having a high attraction would still let you “score” mid-game.
There also existed a potion which would raise attraction with one girl but not how much they liked you.
